Connectors and cable accessories are small items, but they decide whether a CCTV installation is easy to finish and easy to maintain. Installers usually need BNC connectors, RCA connectors, terminal blocks, DC power leads, pigtail cables and video baluns together with brackets and junction boxes. For distributors, these are repeat-use products that can be packed in small cartons and sold together with cameras or installation hardware.
Understand DC 5.5 x 2.1 mm power leads
Many 12V CCTV cameras use DC 5.5 x 2.1 mm power connectors. The outer diameter is 5.5 mm and the inner pin size is 2.1 mm. Buyers often request male plugs, female sockets, red-black pigtail leads or repair cables. These parts are used when installers connect power adapters, extend a low-voltage power line, repair an old camera cable or prepare a simple power connection inside a junction box.
Before ordering DC cables, confirm male or female type, cable length, wire color, wire gauge, packing quantity and whether the product is for repair, extension or new installation. For CCTV projects, the most common request is a short DC power pigtail or a male/female lead for 12V camera power connection. Clear plug size and cable length also reduce sample checking time.
BNC, RCA and terminal block differences
BNC connectors are common in analog CCTV systems, including AHD, CVI, TVI and CVBS cameras. They are used for video signal connection over coaxial cable. Some buyers need solderless BNC connectors for faster installation, while others need crimp or compression styles depending on local installer habits. RCA connectors are often used for audio or AV-related connections. Terminal block connectors are useful for low-voltage wiring, quick connection, maintenance and simple signal or power adaptation.
The key is not to mix product names. A BNC connector is not the same as a video balun, and a coaxial cable is not the same as a terminal block. Clear naming helps buyers trust the catalog and helps quotation move faster.
When to use video baluns
Passive video baluns are used to transmit analog CCTV video signals over twisted pair cable, such as network cable. They are common in projects where installers want to use existing cable, reduce coaxial cable cost or make wiring easier. Video baluns can support different formats such as AHD, CVI, TVI and CVBS. Some models support 720P, 1080P, 3MP, 4MP, 5MP, 8MP or 4K, depending on design and cable distance.
Video baluns are not normally used for IP camera network signal transmission. IP cameras usually use Ethernet cable directly, sometimes with POE switches, POE splitters or network connectors. This is why it is important to confirm whether the project uses analog cameras or IP cameras before selecting accessories.
AHD, CVI, TVI and IP camera differences
AHD, CVI and TVI are HD analog camera formats. They often use coaxial cable and BNC connectors, and they may use video baluns when twisted pair transmission is needed. CVBS is older standard-definition analog video. IP cameras are network cameras and usually use RJ45 Ethernet wiring, POE power or network accessories. If the buyer only says "CCTV camera", it is better to ask whether the system is analog or IP before quoting video connectors.
Information to send for RFQ
For connectors and transmission parts, send the camera system type, connector type, cable length, DC plug size, video format, quantity, packing request and target market. If the buyer has photos of the current connector or cable, those photos are very helpful. We can then suggest BNC, RCA, DC, terminal block, video balun or POE alternatives that match the installation use.
